Woman in her 80s dies after being attacked by two escaped dogs in West Midlands
A woman has been killed after being attacked by two escaped dogs that got into her garden in the West Midlands on Friday, the police have said.
The woman, said to be in her eighties, was found Friday afternoon at around 3:20pm with serious injuries in her back garden in Rowley Regis, a town west of Birmingham.
A 43-year-old local man has been detained on suspicion of being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, leading to a death.
‘He remains in custody for questioning,’ West Midlands Police said in a statement.
Despite their best efforts, emergency services were unable to save the pensioner, who was confirmed dead at the scene soon after being found, the statement added.

Police said she ‘sustained dog bite injuries’, but noted that a post mortem examination would take place soon to establish the cause of death.
Pictures from the scene on Friday evening showed a large presence of armed police officers outside a home, as well as a vet carrying a tranquilliser gun.
Two dogs have also been seized, the police said, and they would be examined to determine their breed.
Pictures from the house showed the vet leaving through the front door, followed by armed officers carrying orange body bags used to hold the presumably tranquillised bodies of the two dogs.
There was a large presence of police and other emergency vehicles – including a rescue helicopter – at the scene , according to witnesses and local news reports.
The air ambulance landed in nearby Britannia Park and other images showed part of Boundary Avenue cordoned off.

According to one person on Facebook, the woman was 83 and had been attacked by two pitbulls, although this was unconfirmed at the time of writing.
Forensic officers were also said to be at the scene, along with two police vehicles with dogs inside, the local outlet reported.
Passersby were urged to avoid the area in the town where pictures showed several emergency vehicles parked on the street.
