Star Wars plot hole: Spin-off Kenobi solves Darth Vader’s Obi-Wan Return of the Jedi error
By the time Luke (played by Mark Hamill) came face-to-helmet with Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) in the 1983 epic Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) had been dead for years. It was also noted that, prior to this meeting, Vader and Obi-Wan had not seen one another since the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Despite this, in Return of the Jedi Vader spoke candidly about his relationship with Obi-Wan.
After Vader captured Luke on the Forest Moon of Endor, he tried to tempt his son to the Dark Side.
Luke refused and attempted to convince his father that “some trace of Anakin Skywalker still remained” within him.
Vader simply replied: “Obi-Wan once thought as you do.”
This statement is confusing considering Obi-Wan never saw Anakin as Darth Vader, only as the young Jedi he trained up.
