Meghan Markle latest: Did the Queen really force Meghan to stop acting?

Meghan Markle, 39, launched a series of damaging claims against the Royal Household during her sitdown interview with Oprah Winfrey last month. These included the assertion she was made to give up her passport and driving licence upon joining the Royal Family and was unable to leave Kensington Palace for months while pregnant with her first son Archie Harrison.

During the CBS special, Meghan told the US chatshow host how she felt unable to seek help for her mental health.

She said: “You couldn’t just go. You couldn’t. I mean, you have to understand, as well, when I joined that family, that was the last time, until we came here, that I saw my passport, my driver’s licence, my keys.

“All that gets turned over. I didn’t see any of that any more.”

In response to Oprah’s comment: “Well, the way you’re describing this, it . . . it’s like you were trapped and couldn’t get help, even though you’re on the verge of suicide. That’s what you are describing. That’s what I’m hearing.”

Mr Morton added: “I think neither of them gave it the thought they should have done.

“I think that famous warning from Prince William of ‘steady on, think about what you’re doing’, that Harry bridled at, was probably meant more with affection.”

Meghan and Harry have been based in California since last spring and are expected to remain there long-term.

They are preparing to welcome their second child, a daughter, who is due to be born this summer.
