Amir Khan forgets how to put bins out in bizarre TV moment: ‘I remind you every week!’

The 34-year-old and Faryal are the subject of BBC show Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton, which is documenting the couple’s life in the north west. From their relationship difficulties, to Amir’s determination to get back into the ring, the life of the pair is playfully dissected during the eight-part series. But in one hilarious moment, Amir appears to completely forget how to put his bins out, when asked politely by Faryal.

Amir has earned a name as being quite forgetful, highlighted most prominently when he was unaware the nation had a female Prime Minister – even though Theresa May was currently in Downing Street.

He also failed to remember the UK was once run by Margaret Thatcher during an embarrassing incident on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! four years ago.

In the first instalment of the reality series, however, Amir – who rose to fame after claiming a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics – appeared to live up to his reputation.

While in the kitchen, Faryal told the former two-time world boxing champion to clear up and get rid of the rubbish.

Amir said: “I need to take the bin out. So the boxes go in one, the cans and the bottles go in another, and that goes in the black bin.

“There’s about six bins there, you can’t just…”

Becoming frustrated, Faryal responded: “Take the black bin out, that’s all you need to do.”

Amir, appearing confused, added: “So the recycling goes in what colour bin?”

The father of three and Faryal finally put an end to their three-year feud in 2019, with Amir telling the Mirror at the time: “I speak to them all the time – everything is cool between them.

“I’m in a sport where one punch can change your life, and I thought, ‘Be nice to everyone’.”

And despite a series of other public rows, including with heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, the pair now appear to be stronger than ever.

In the documentary, Amir calls Faryal “the boss”, adding that “I’m supposed to be the champion at work, but I’m not the champion at home because she’s the champ and the kids”.

Speaking to the Bolton News this month, Amir explained the series showed how “strong” the family had become, despite the controversy.

He noted: “For us, I think it is amazing because it helps us engage with our fans and give them a chance to see the real side of us.”

His love of Bolton is clear throughout, and although Amir admitted he had “so many opportunities” to leave the city, “something for some reason” always brings him back.

Amir added: “Because my career started off here and the love I have got from the community here, it’s very hard for me to leave.”

Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton airs on BBC One and is available to stream now on iPlayer.
